Do you want the ease of the home spray tan without the streaky lines and spots? I found a bunch of great tips to help make your sunless at home tan even better and streak-free.

The first things you are going to want to have on hand are a pair of rubber gloves. These gloves should be tight fitting and thrown away after each use. Getting spray tanner on your hands or around your fingernails will make them brown and streaky. You want to avoid getting tanner on your hands, elbows and feet.

Your knees, elbows, armpits, under your forearm and your ankles should always be prepped before you tan. You can use a lotion or sunscreen in these areas to eliminate the buildup of the tanner.

Exfoliating is a huge step in spray tanning. You should always exfoliate every part of your body before getting a spray tan. When picking your exfoliator, make sure you do not choose one that is oil based or a moisturizer scrub. These exfoliators can prevent the tanner from being applied evenly to your skin. L’Oreal even makes a exfoliating scrub that is designed for sunless tanning. You can most likely find this at any local convenience store.

If you’re using a darker tinted tanner, you are going to want to shave your legs the day before you apply your spray tan. If you wait until the day of your spray tan to shave, you’ll leave your pores open which will allow the tanner to soak in and essentially create a spotted effect on your skin.

Facial moisturizers and body creams can damage your spray tan. You should avoid using these products as long as you can so that you allow ample amount of time for your spray tan to soak into your skin and not smear.

Never exercise (sweat), swim or shower directly after receiving or completing your spray tan. Also, do not get caught in the rain or you’ll be left with stripes and a smeared spray tan. You should allow your spray tan solution to completely soak in for 2-3 hours at least before attempting any of the above activities. If you want your tan to last even longer, you should avoid any types of saunas, hot baths or steam showers.

After you receive your spray tan, you’re going to want to make sure that you have dark, loose fitting clothing. If you wear tight fitting clothes, they will absorb the tanning solution and also leave dark creases in your skin.

One of the most sensitive and hardest areas to tan is your face. You always want to pay close attention when applying any type of self tanning solution to your face. One thing you are going to want to be careful with is your eyebrows. You can use a wet cotton swab to gently rub across your eyebrows to make sure there is no tanner in them. You can also use a moist cotton ball to remove the solution around your hair line. This will assist in giving you more of an all natural look.
