Tanning Frequently Asked Questions

Every day at our Extreme Tan And Smoothies locations, we get dozens of questions. We’re always glad to answer whatever question you have, but I thought I would put together a list of some of the most frequently asked tanning questions to help everyone out.
Is indoor tanning safe?
Yes it is, but you have to do it properly. There are risks with over exposure to harmful UV rays, but if you follow the tanning guidelines and use the right tanning lotions, it can be a safe and enjoyable experience.
Why should I tan indoors?
Indoor tanning takes less time and gives you a more even tan.
Why should I buy a tanning lotion?
They moisturize your skin, helping you tan quicker and protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. They’re not required, but we definitely suggest that you use a tanning lotion.
How often should I go?
That depends on you. When you’re first building up a base tan, you can go as often as every one or two days, but never more than four times a week. Most people go about three times a week to get their desired look, then one or two times a week after that to maintain the tan.
How long does it take?
Most of the tanning beds take somewhere between ten and twenty minutes. However, when you’re just starting out, it might be even shorter so that you skin doesn’t get burnt.
What do I wear?
When you’re in the tanning bed alone, you can wear as much or as little clothing you want. Some people tan naked to get a full body tan. Others tan in their swimsuits. You will be required to wear eye goggles to protect your eyes from damage.
