Maximizing Your Spray Tan: Tips And Suggestions

For those looking for an alternative to spending hours tanning at the beach or don’t have enough time to go to the tanning salon, spray tanning is becoming an increasingly popular choice. The airbrush tans of today have come a long way since the self-tanners that made you “carrot orange.” When it’s done right by a professional tanning salon, the results are a natural looking tan in just a few minutes.

For those getting a spray tan for the very first time, here’s a few tips:

If you’re planning to spray tan before a special event like a wedding or prom, they suggest that you do a trial about a month before to see if you like the results.

On the day of your spray tan, you should shower and exfoliate. Use a loofah with a shower gel or body scrub to remove all of the dry/dead skin so that you get an even application of the spray tan later on.

Important things to remember:

Listen carefully to the instructions that the salon associate gives, they’re trained in giving spray tans and how to get the best results.

Avoid breathing in the spray tan.

Apply the lotion to block the spay on your feet and hands for a more natural looking tan.

After you’re done, use the towel to wipe off any excess spray, make sure you wipe not blot.

Make sure you apply plenty of moisturizer on a regular basis to extend the life of your spray tan as long as possible. Blend the moisturizer into your skin, make sure not to wipe it off, because that can remove the spray tan. If you have dry skin, use a deep moisturizer.

Baths, spas and swimming in chlorinated pools can shorten the life of the tan.

The color from your spray tan should last anywhere from 7-14 days.
