The easiest way to treat a sunburn is to not get burnt at all. By following the guidelines and advice of the trained associates at your tanning salon, it’s almost impossible to get burnt. However, sunburns do happen whether it’s from being out at the beach too long or something else.
I’ve heard of all sorts of remedies from ones that doctors have suggested, to ones that sound like old wives’ tales.
Here’s what’s worked for me:
First, cool the burned area using a towel soaked in cold water or with an icepack.
After the burnt area cools down, cover it with aloe vera. Just make sure you let the skin cool down first, if you add the aloe vera too early, it can actually trap the heat in and you’ll continue to get burnt. Also, avoid lotions with alcohol in the ingredients.
If your skin starts to swell or there’s pain, try taking aspirin.
Make sure to drink lots of liquids and stay out of the sun until your skin returns to normal.
A few others that I’ve heard:
Olive oil mixed with vinegar, may smell but I’ve been told it works. Apply to your skin and let it stay there for an hour, then shower to rinse it off.
Make a paste of turmeric, barley and yogurt. Apply it to the burnt skin. Let it stay on the skin for about an hour, than wash it off.
Another is to apply ice to the areas that were burnt, then rub the area with fresh cucumber slices.
Do you have any other solutions that work for you?
