Ontario, Canada – The Cancer Society in Canada is in talks of putting a ban on tanning for those under the age of eighteen as well as strict restrictions on marketing and advertising of salons. The society conducted a study and has released information stating that tanning salons are no complying with Canadian health regulations, specifically stating that those younger then sixteen should not use indoor tanning beds and people with sensitive skin should be wanred of potential risks of tanning.

According to the survery nearly two thirds of tanning salons failed to ask the age of their customers and even when finding out a customer was under the age of sixteen, more then half were content with allowing them to use their tanning beds. Ninety-nine percent of these salons did not advise fair skinned customers about the risks of tanning and ninety six percent of the salons failed to mention Health Canada’s safety guidelines.

The Joint Canadian Tanning Association argues that it’s salon members are responsible and take this matter very serious but studies show different.
